SEQUESTER GREENHOUSE GASES

Through photosynthesis, our plant-based material consumes carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.  For every 1.0 pound of plant-based material grown, we sequester 2.2 pounds of CO2e.

Our plant-based material replaces fossil fuels in everyday products, further contributing to greenhouse gas reduction.

The CLEARAS technology consumes NH4 directly. Without CLEARAS, the treatment plant must break NH4 down to NO2, which releases nitrous oxide into the atmosphere. Nitrous oxide is 300x more harmful than CO2 as a greenhouse gas.

PHOTOSYNTHESIS

During photosynthesis, algae absorb carbon dioxide from the wastewater and industrial carbon source fed to EcoRecover. Through a series of biochemical reactions, carbon dioxide is converted into organic compounds, primarily biomass. This process is known as carbon fixation and plays a pivotal role in sequestering carbon from the atmosphere. The sequestered carbon is stored in the algae in the form of carbohydrates. The algae is used as a feedstock for inclusion in  plant-based products, lessening the dependence on fossil fuel based products.

GREENHOUSE GAS FACTS

Greenhouse gases are gases in Earth's atmosphere that trap heat. They let sunlight pass through the atmosphere, but they prevent the heat that the sunlight brings from leaving the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide are all greenhouse gases.
